DVI Extender with Audio

The new Extron DVI 201 A D is an architecturally friendly solution for extending DVI or HDMI signals along with RS-232 control signals long distances over standard CAT 5 cables. The transmitter and receiver units work together to send HDTV 720p and 1080i signals over 200 feet (60 meters), and HDTV 1080p/60 over 100 feet (30 meters). The DVI 201 A D uses a single-gang Decora®-style faceplate, and is available in white or black to match other wallplates in the room.

CAT 5 for Transmission
CAT 5-type cable is an appealing medium for extending DVI signals due to its cost effectiveness, small size, and light weight which make it much easier to pull through conduit than DVI cable. A streamlined, discreet installation is possible since the Decora-style units are wall-mounted, and the cabling between them is hidden behind walls and ceilings, providing a clean, aesthetically attractive DVI transmission solution. In many cases, no significant cable installation would be required since pre-run CAT 5-type cable is often readily available for use

Installer-Friendly Features
The DVI 201 A D is designed with several features to help facilitate integration into A/V installations. RS-232 signals from third-party control system can be transmitted over the same CAT 5-type cabling alongside the DVI signals, for controlling a projector or flat-panel display. A LED indicator on both the transmitter and receiver provides a quick means of verifying power and signal presence. The CAT 5 cable link can also be used for power between the units, so that only one location would require an external power source.

In applications where audio is needed to accompany the DVI video, the DVI 201 A D can transmit balanced or unbalanced stereo audio signals when a separate audio cable is attached
